East Arrowwood Creek Project
Alberta Transportation was interested in increasing fish passage in an existing culvert crossing at the East Arrowwood Syphon Project.
Al Nilson, P.Eng., of Alberta Transportation, recognized that the Wildstone Fish Baffle Insert (patent pending) could meet his demands. "We needed an economical solution to provide fish passage in the existing culvert. The Wildstone Fish Baffle Insert proved to be our best option."
A total of twenty galvanized steel baffles were installed in the 2400 mm diameter culvert pipe over two days. This type of installation is ideal for existing culverts as the fish baffle insert will not compromise the galvanizing of the structure.
Silver Sands Creek Project
High stream velocities were preventing fish passage in an existing structural plate culvert at Silver Sands Creek in northern British Columbia. The Ministry of Environment recommended fish baffle inserts to solve this problem.
The decision was made to assemble the baffles on site in case any alterations were required due to distortion of the culvert over time. The baffles were installed in four days and are currently allowing improved fish passage to upstream habitat.
After recommending the Wildstone Fish Baffle Inserts for this project, Brendan Anderson of the Ministry of Environment states, "I was very pleased with their ease of installation and how the baffles have improved fish passage to upstream habitat."
The Wildstone Fish Baffle Insert is a cost effective solution to improve fish passage through corrugated steel pipes.
