Super•Cor® Animal-Friendly Crossings, Woodstock to Grand Falls, NB

AIL helps Brunway make new TCH section the safest yet.
In 2005, when "The Superhighway Developer" Brun-Way Group was awarded a public/private partnership opportunity to design and build 98 kms (61 mi) of twinned highway through rugged northwestern New Brunswick.

AIL products and services - a natural selection.

AIL's economical and flexible Super•Cor® Animal-Friendly Crossings and our supporting design and engineering teams were a natural selection for low-cost, aesthetically-pleasing and effective safety solutions for all.

Various Super•Cor® configurations were needed to meet different site requirements.
The project specified that the structures be delivered and assembled according to a very tight schedule and last a minimum of 75 years. For maximum effectiveness, Department of Natural Resources required very open and inviting underpass proportions. The lengths of the tops of the arches could not be smaller than the end areas of the openings. Plus, the underpass structures also had to accommodate differing grade profiles from site to site. Our Super•Cor® deep corrugated steel plate in Arch, Round and Horizontal Ellipse were able to go the distance in all regards with spans reaching 13.7 m (45') and rises of up to 7.8 m (25' 7"). Lengths ranged from 38.5 m (126' 4") to 100.1 m (328' 5") and fill heights varied from 1.5 m (4' 11") to 6 m (19' 8"). Most structures were finished with concrete collars that tied in with protective, animal-friendly fencing.

AIL professionals were involved in every stage of the three-year project.

The AIL team collaborated with the Brun-Way team during the pre-qualification stage, providing details about our Animal-Friendly Crossing solutions. Then, our engineering support team developed and interpreted drawings and advised on specifications. AIL technical reps oversaw installations of underpass structures as requested by construction crews and installations met the project's tight deadlines.
