AIL recently partnered with Arthon Constructors on a 2.3-kilometre design-build road project to connect two Kelowna neighbourhoods and provide access to more development property. The scope of this project included several AIL infrastructure products:
- A 15 m Super-Cor Arch
- MSE Wire Wall Headwalls with Track-Strip Soil Reinforcement
- A 1.8 m Bolt-A-Plate Arch with Precast Concrete Footings
- A number of Corrugated Steel Pipe Culverts
The Super-Cor Arch was sized to accommodate weather-event creek flow and a pedestrian/equestrian trail under the roadway. The MSE Wire Walls needed to be installed on a grade, so we spent extra time working on-site with the Arthon team to help them get the layout correct.

Once the foundation was prepared and the poured concrete footings were in place, the Super-Cor Arch took one day to pre-assemble the rings, eight days to assemble the arch, two days for bolt torquing and 17 days to install the MSE Wire Walls with Track-Strip Soil Reinforcement and engineered backfill.
The smaller Bolt-A-Plate Culvert had its Precast Concrete Footings installed and the plate assembled in four days, with an additional three days for backfill.
One of our challenges was to make sure all of the products coming from different locations arrived on time to meet Arthon’s construction schedule. We worked very closely with Arthon throughout the process. They were great to work with and open communication ensured there were no surprises.
Service through long-term project development cycle strengthens relationship
AIL has been working with Arthon on this project since 2014 through various planning phases and scoping efforts. Our commitment to working with them as their plans came together really strengthened our relationship and we became true project partners with them.
“I’d like to thank the AIL Team for all of your time and effort on this project. As we know, the genesis of this project goes back many years, and I am proud to have worked alongside AIL every step of the way. While it was a very challenging project for us to finalize, AIL worked with us as a partner, not a supplier. With that, AIL is part of making history in the City of Kelowna with the first design-build project for municipal transportation infrastructure. You worked side by side with us to address any challenges and issues that arose during arch construction and never wavered from your commitment to customer service. I look forward to working on another project.”
