When a small, 55-year-old timber bridge on Highway 230 in Morley’s Siding needed replacement, the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (NLDTI) wanted an efficient and aesthetically pleasing solution for this community focal point.
They chose an AIL Bolt-A-Plate Round with Best-Kote protective coating packaged with our MSE Precast Panel Walls in Ashlar Stone finish.
NLDTI inspections of the old bridge had found scouring damage to the creosote timber abutments, so we made a few decisions to enhance the resilience and sustainability of our structure for this aggressive environment.
Solution designed for added resilience and sustainability
- A concrete scour wall was installed beneath the invert to protect against erosion.
- Best-Kote protective coating with high-performance NZF bolts was specified.
- Durable MSE Precast Panel headwalls and wingwalls were used.
To keep the project running smoothly, we worked closely with NLDTI during the design stage to get a thorough understanding of the project. We also provided support to Bulldog Contracting through the full project cycle — from tender to completion.

We received some great post-project feedback and compliments on the aesthetics of the finished structure from NLDTI.
