Bridge crosses reflecting pond in the middle of fast-growing residential development
A handsome new Pedestrian/Cycle Bridge from the AIL Group crosses a reflecting pond in the middle of Midtown – a fast-growing residential development in Airdrie, Alberta. The crossing is the focal point of the community which is designed around pedestrians, cyclists and outdoor lifestyles.
The H-Section Floor Beam Truss design reaches 40 m across the pond and features a painted finish and 3 m wide natural Douglas Fir decking. The H-Section is often selected as the most efficient superstructure for spans up to 73 m. This parallel chord truss design has its floor beams welded to vertical members of the side trusses.
Bridge anchors an “urban oasis”
Artfully poised on over 90 acres in the heart of Airdrie, Midtown provides a rare sense of openness in the midst of the city. Acting as an arrival vista, a central curving promenade juts out to the bridge, creating a lasting first impression that says “urban oasis.”
With plentiful outdoor amenities interwoven among inspiring new homes, the community heralds the way of the future for progressive urban developments. We are proud to have been selected to design and supply the bridge at the centre of it all.
