Sainte-Sophie-de-Lévrard is a municipality on the south side of the St. Lawrence River between Trois-Rivières and Québec City. To restore access to a regional road, Rang St-Antoine Ouest, the Municipality contracted the engineering consulting firm, Tetra Tech, to conduct a study and recommend the optimum solution.
Tetra Tech recommended a low-rise structural steel product, and an AIL Super-Cor Box Culvert with Best-Kote Buried Bridge Coating was selected.
The new crossing was built adjacent to the existing stream bed with a full concrete invert and pedestals, as recommended by Tetra Tech. Close collaboration with the AIL Engineering team led to some variation and optimization of the foundation elements. Before the onset of winter, Excavations Tourigny completed the project to the satisfaction of all parties.
Box culverts offer increased clearance and flow
Super-Cor box culverts offer optimal clearance boxes and hydraulic flow geometry along with shallow covers for low-rise applications.
Super strong, flexible and resilient buried arch bridges
Buried arch bridges, tunnels and other structures made from Super-Cor carry loads through soil-structure interaction, meaning the bridge and the backfill soils act together to support the loads. Settlement tolerances for buried arch bridges are much higher than that of buried concrete bridges. Discover the many benefits of Buried Metal Bridges >>
