Project demonstrates the versatility of our MSE Retaining Wall System through three variations
Located at the junction of autoroutes 10 and 30 in Ville de Brossard, Quartier DIX30 is the largest commercial shopping and entertainment “lifestyle” centre on the south shore of Montréal.
As part of DIX30’s multi-phased development and transportation infrastructure improvements in the area, a new overpass access ramp to Autoroute 10 was required. It features a variety of AIL’s MSE Retaining Wall Systems, including custom-designed, full-height panels.
Their sleek geometric styling with painted green accents ties in nicely with the steel beam overpass. The result is certainly one of our most attractive Precast Panel Wall installations to date.
Architectural aesthetics were critical
Because of the high visibility of these walls, the client was very focused on their aesthetics. Close collaboration with the precast manufacturer, Béton Préfabriqué du Richelieu (BPDR), was required to ensure the quality and look of the finished product met the client’s expectations.
Early in the project, there were some delays over client revisions to the drawings, which required us to adapt the design of our 2.8 x 1.5 m panels to 3.0 x 1.5 m. To make up for the time, we created a revised and rather compressed schedule. BPDR doubled their efforts in order to deliver on time. Good project management was a key to our mutual success. Hats off to BPDR for delivering a premium product on an accelerated schedule.
One of the particulars of this project was that in order to lighten the loads at the abutment, the composition of the independent walls and backfill behind the full-height concrete panels had to be ± 4.0 m of wire walls with a light fill styrofoam on top. Kudos to the contractor, L. A. Hébert, for their excellent and precise work on the wall installation.
