Westbank First Nation (WFN) is a self-governing First Nation in the heart of the Okanagan Territory comprised of five large reserves, two of which are a vital part of urban West Kelowna, with a population of over 9,000 residents and over 400 businesses.
Spland Road is the only connection to a growing residential neighbourhood in West Kelowna but was compromised by an older, undersized culvert that was prone to blockages and flooding — cutting off residents’ access to the rest of the city and to emergency services.
WFN chose to replace the old culvert with a new, wide-mouthed Bolt-A-Plate Pipe Arch to ensure better hydraulic flow rates with fewer blockages and less flooding. To maintain access, the new culvert was stage-constructed and placed in two sections so that one lane of the road was always open.
AIL worked with the consultant and contractor to offer site support to get the structure approved and stayed in contact with the contractor to ensure the successful installation. The project was completed successfully and we continue to work with WFN.
